Artemis Racing announces line-up for ACWS Plymouth
05 September 2011 - Following on from the inaugural America’s Cup World Series (ACWS) regatta in Cascais less than a month ago, the world’s top sailing teams are in the final stage of preparations for the ACWS – Plymouth which begins on Saturday.
Close racing, with stadium-like viewing for spectators will again be the order of the day for fans watching the racing live in Plymouth, while it will also be streamed live on the internet for millions of fans around the globe.
Artemis Racing’s debut in the ACWS – Cascais wrapped up well, with the Swedish team finishing 2nd in the World Championship race, just one point behind Emirates Team New Zealand in the overall standings.
"I really enjoyed the racing in Cascais. There proved to be a lot to learn and a lot of new challenges ahead for Artemis Racing on the race course. All the teams are good and learning the multihull aspect of our sport is exciting given the speed of the boats. It is also quite challenging for the teams onboard. The boats are physical and reward good boat handling," said Skipper Terry Hutchinson.
Artemis Racing’s shore team has been in Plymouth for more than a week building the base and making the final preparations for this event. Skipper Terry Hutchinson arrived on Sunday from Beaulieu-sur-Mer where the team was competing in the D35 Grand Prix, part of the Vulcain Trophy and today was the first day out on the bay for the sailors.
The crew onboard for the ACWS – Plymouth will be Skipper Terry Hutchinson (USA), tactician Iain Percy (GBR), wing trimmer Sean Clarkson (NZL), trimmer Morgan Trubovich (NZL) and bowman Andy Fethers (AUS).
"Plymouth will be my first event on the AC45. I have been out training on the AC45 a few times and it has been a fantastic ride, so am really looking forward to mixing it up with our fellow competitors,” said three time Olympian Iain Percy, tactician for Artemis Racing. “Plymouth will be a great venue with flat water and many viewing areas around the Bay for the spectators. September is often a windy month here in the UK, so for sure there will be plenty of action!"
