New King Composite mast on Maxi 80 by Vismara Yacht.
The revolutionary project has no precedents, and was created in cooperation with the Vismara Design Team and the famous Florentine designer Luca Dini,
The new Maxi V80 Luce Guida was launched in early June with a full set of King Composite spars. In a single-piece construction, the project has specific details in the design of the tensioners/ halyards/ internal German sheeting/ boom wings/ and lights distribution.
The sail plan has a very high aspect ratio, and it´s combined with a lightweight hull (27 tons displacement), deck layout and interior details, which makes this boat an extraordinary machine.
Congratulations to the owner of the new Maxi V80 Luce Guida and the Vismara Team for this new baby.

Newsflash : Artemis Racing and Groupe Edmond de Rothschild in race-ending crash on day 2 of Act 5
AUGUST 07TH 2011
In the fourth race on the second day of the Extreme Sailing Series Act 5 from Cowes, France’s Groupe Edmond de Rothschild ploughed into Sweden’s Artemis Racing at the top mark resulting in severe damage to both boats – bad enough to end their racing for the day. A busy night in the pitlanes is expected to get them racing again tomorrow.
Artemis Racing, helmed by Santiago Lange, tacked in for the top mark in front of Groupe Edmond to Rothschild. Artemis Racing slowed as the team struggled to complete the tack as Pierre Pennec tried desperately to bear away around her stern. There were no other boats around, but their closing speed was too fast and they could not avoid the collision – two of the French crew were thrown into the water. The impact was heard by thousands of spectators along the shore – a record crowd in the history of the event - who have been experiencing amazing close up Stadium Racing all afternoon.
Artemis Racing has severe damage to the rear of their port hull and immediately called for a pump as they returned to the dock (later Santi Lange was transferred to shore for stitches). Groupe Edmond de Rothschild has sustained serious damage to their port bowå and made their way slowly back under tow to the pitlane.
The breezy conditions on the second day of Act 5, with 20-25 knots steady breeze with bigger gusts earlier in the day, the 12-boat fleet were split into two groups of 6 and raced with reefed mainsails and no gennakers. The first group raced three races and the action was pretty spectacular as the crews manhandled their boats around the tight stadium racecourse off Egypt Point, Cowes. It was in the first race for the second group that the collision happened between Artemis Racing and Groupe Edmond de Rothschild.

Abrazo grande.

August 2, 2011:
Zorzi and Gonzalez are now World Champions!
Today the oft promised San Francisco Bay big breeze came out to greet the Laser 4.7 Worlds competitors. These kids have created a strong following around the St. Francis Yacht Club and on the shores of Crissy field with their practiced moves on the water, and their tireless determination and gentle demeanors on land. They are sometimes (and appropriately) sporting about their successes, but also coy around the grownups and old salts here who love to hear the watery tales from these intrepid sailors. They are inspirational.
They are the future of sailing.
The breeze started off with a whisper in 8-10 knots for the boy’s silver fleet who started at 1100 today, and a flood tide. Greek sailor Synodinos Eframidis pulled out ahead of the rest with an 8,2. Just behind him overall were Peru’s Alonso Torres-Ilosa with a 19th and a bullet to end his Worlds event. In third overall for the event American William Livernois.
The scheduled today was a lot tighter with the girls and gold fleet boys set to start at 1pm. The girls started first as the wind began to build up to 15 knots and the tide started to recess out of the Golden Gate Bridge. With moderate chop and good breeze, all of the training these kids have done in heavy air in preparation for this regatta started to pay off. In race 11, Cecilia Zorzi raced well and finished in 9th, which, incredibly, was her second lowest score, thus a drop. In her last race of the day she climbed through the fleet from a top 10 rounding at the first leeward gate, to a top three rounding at the last wing mark. After she got tossed in the water for her winning regatta, Zorzi simply said, “It went well.”
Expect to see more of these kids in the Olympics, the America’s Cup and leading the fleets in your backyard.

LANGE TO HELM ARTEMIS RACING IN THE ESS - COWES
POSTED ON 28 JULY 2011
For the fifth consecutive year, the Solent will once again play host to the only UK stop on the global nine-event Extreme Sailing Series™. Twelve Extreme 40 catamarans, with world-renowned sailors from 15 nationalities, will line up on 6 August for seven days of high-octane ‘stadium sailing’ action the circuit has become renowned for.
The fleet of 48 top professional sailors have amongst them competed at 30 Olympic Games. In addition there are 82 World Championship titles amongst the fleet, 57 Records Broken or Held making it the strongest ever line-up seen in the five year history of the circuit.
Artemis Racing and Emirates Team New Zealand will be present despite also racing in the first America's Cup World Series event in Cascais next week. Artemis Racing will bring back their skipper from Act 2 in Qingdao, double Olympic bronze medalist, Santiago Lange from Argentina. No-one expects these teams to be any less competitive than in Boston and Istanbul where it came down to the final race.
French entry Groupe Edmond de Rothschild, currently lying third, will be looking to regain their top spot on the overall podium having lost it following a disappointing 5th place at the last event in Boston.
Home crowds in Cowes will have plenty of Brits to support. Britain’s Team GAC Pindar, will be hoping to continue improving and skipper Ian Williams is fresh from a second World Match Racing Tour victory in Sweden.
With twelve teams on the starting grid, the race courses will feel smaller than ever as the Extreme Sailing Series™ 2011 reaches the half way point of the 2011 global circuit.
