Artemis Racing wraps up first training period
Tuesday, March 01, 2011
The Artemis Racing team completed its first training period on the AC45 on Tuesday, with a good session in 12 to 15 knot winds.
The team will now focus on its own AC45 - the platform is scheduled for delivery this week - which will need to be finished, painted, and assembled under the direction of Phil Jameson, the team's AC45 project manager.
"We had a great time, and it's a really great boat," said Santi Lange, the most experienced multihull sailor on the team. "Looking forward there is a still a lot to learn, but we achieved everything we wanted to achieve…
"We will be back with our own boat by the end of the month (March), we really like the boat and are looking forward to doing more sailing in it."
In the meantime, many members of the Artemis Racing sailing team will be competing in San Diego in the Oracle RC44 Cup.
In addition to Lange, the Artemis Racing crew for the testing session in New Zealand included: Stu Bettany, David Brooke, Kevin Hall, Rodney Ardern and team CEO Paul Cayard, who was able to join the team on the water for one day of training.
