TEAM SANYA…..ON THE MOVE AGAIN

Finally some great news for Team Sanya and all of our sponsors, suppliers and fans – we have worked tirelessly over the last few days and last night found a solution to getting Team Sanya back into the Volvo Ocean Race as fast as possible. A huge thanks to everyone who has helped us during this challenging time, and especially to Volvo Trucks and Maersk Line as well as DHL in helping us to assess options and find the right solutions.
Our race boat Sanya Lan, still based in Motril, South of Spain for now, is getting ready to be loaded onto a Volvo Truck on Friday morning where she will be taken from Motril to the commercial port in Gibraltar. The Team Sanya shore team of David Duff, COO; Nick Bice, Shore Manager and Frano Tregaskis, Rigger as well as our media crew member Andres Soriano, will travel with the consignment ensuring all runs according to plan and we are all kept informed of the progress through blogs, photos and videos of this part of our journey.
Once in Gibraltar, she will be loaded onto a Maersk Line ship and will depart on Sunday evening/Monday morning to make her speedy way to Cape Town – estimated arrival date for now is around 27th/28th November . In the meantime Mike, David and Nick have pulled together an expert team of boatbuilders who have already done some work for the team in the past and they are going to hot foot it to Cape Town to be there on Monday of next week and get started on preparing the new hull section to be fitted to Sanya Lan. When the yacht arrives in Cape Town, we are aiming to have the piece ready and the guys in place to fit the new piece and fingers crossed she will be up and running. It is going to be a tight schedule for sure, fitting 2-3 weeks of a boatbuild project into a mere 7 days – if we are lucky, we may get one practice day before the re-start from Cape Town on 11th December but that’s good enough for us at this stage!
Mike Sanderson and some of the team are now heading straight to Cape Town this week-end to be in situ to oversee operations and the shore team will start work there as planned on 21st November setting up the shore base and ensuring all is ship shape for the arrival of the race boat. Some of the other sailors and shore team have headed home to grab what is now a very few short days of rest and recuperation before heading to Cape Town, ready for some very long days and nights at work!!

Andres Soriano, the team media crew member, will follow the boat journey between today and Monday, covering the action of loading and unloading and seeing her off on the ship on Sunday night/Monday morning so lots more updates to follow with visuals so we can all keep up to date on the progress.
