Curtain raised on l’Hydrotpère.ch
Yesterday during a press conference organized in Lausanne, on the campus of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), which is the scientific adviser of the project, Alain Thébault and his team unveiled the drawings of l’Hydroptère.ch.
This new lab boat will be a trial platform on a reduced scale for the future Hydroptère maxi.
The boat building will be Swiss-French as it will be shared between the shipyards B&B in La Trinité sur Mer, which has already started the manufacture of the centreboard and the cross beams and Décision SA in Ecublens, which will start in June.
As the objective of the Hydroptère team in the medium term is the quest for oceanic records (Atlantic and Pacific), and then a circumnavigation on l’Hydroptère maxi, it was necessary to develop a versatile platform.
Thus the design of l’Hydroptère.ch was focused on the desire to maintain and optimize the equipment related to the boat’s speed and behaviour “in flight”, validated thanks to the numerous sailing sessions on the 60 ft l’Hydroptère, whilst developing points such as versatility and navigation in light winds.
