First day at the Open de España in Calpe
Sun and light breeze during the first racing day at the Open de España in Calpe.
UK representative Ian Williams showed why he is the favourite, wining the four matches sailed today against Reuben Corbet (NZL), Simone Ferrarse (ITA) Keith Swinton (AUS) and the Spanish skipper Manu Weiller.
French veteran Betrand Pacé also showed a good shape, wining 3 of the 4 matches of the day. Only Finish Staffan Lindberg beat the America’s Cup skipper.
Behind them, seven teams are tied with two victories so the battle to get a place in the semi-final is guaranteed.
The weather forecast for the second day is smooth winds and calm sea. The Organization expects to start the races at 11 a.m. and if the wind strength allows it, to complete as many races as possible.
