Press Release 1/11

A success story to be continued: New CONTAINER joins TP52 circuit.

Selters/Germany January 17th, 2011. Udo Schütz, founder of Schütz GmbH & Co. KGaA and pioneer of honeycomb technologies prevalent in aircraft industries, kicks off the construction of a brand new boat.

The new CONTAINER, one of the successors to the legendary yachts of the eighties and nineties of the same name and direct successor of the latest Mini Maxi sailing in that division the last two years, will be a TP52 and is under construction at Green Marine Ltd., UK. Only 4 months construction time will allow the boat to be ready in time for the start of the 2011 Audi MedCup season.

The TP52 class high-tech boat will again be built by using Schütz state-of-the-art honeycomb technology (CORMASTER). Like her sistership RAN (GBR), CONTAINER’s naval architect is the team of experts from Judel-Vrolijk design not only representative of the latest in racing yacht construction, and Schütz’ new boat is largely benefitting in terms of a huge shortening of the building process by using the same moulds.

15 years after claiming victory at the legendary Admiral’s Cup and after a two years experience in the Mini Maxi class Schütz and his team now aim into the highest level of monohull racing: The TP52 class and it’s European Grand Prix series. Mid May this year already the new boat shall compete in the first MedCup regatta in Cascais (Portugal).

“That was a logical step for us based on the experiences from the Mini Maxi class”, says Udo Schütz about joining the TP52 fleet. “There is no higher professional way of sailing on monohulls worldwide – the perfect environment to showcase and develop our products.”

Nominated as skipper and helmsman again is Markus Wieser and will significantly be responsible for the success of CONTAINER’s sailing. The current European Champion and second place finisher of the World Championship in the Dragon class is confident. Says Wieser: “It is a super opportunity to lead the CONTAINER team into a new dimension of offshore regatta sailing – a highly skilled bunch of people and some of them already have experience in the TP52 class. Anyhow we remain realistic and we know that competition is very strong and everything can happen during the short up and down races.”
